Founded in 1992, HUPE (Croatian Association of Teachers of English) brings together ELT professionals in Croatia. It is constantly growing and evolving to meet the needs and interests of its 400 members. The association aims at promoting and supporting the teaching of English and teacher education, professional collegiality, and cooperation on national and international level.
HUPE has been an affiliate of TESOL International Association since 1993. That same year, HUPE also affiliated with IATEFL. We have established international cooperation with TESOL Greece and TESOL Spain as well as IATEFL Hungary, IATEFL Slovenia, and ATECR (Czech Republic). We also cherish regional partnerships with ELTAM (Macedonia), TETA (Tuzla English Teachers’ Association) and ELTA Serbia.
HUPE unique is the sole organization in Croatia that includes EFL educators from all levels of education, primary and secondary schools, universities, and the private sector. To reach all of its members, HUPE has established eight branches throughout the country, in Karlovac, Osijek, Rijeka, Slavonski Brod, Split, Varaždin, Zadar, and Zagreb, covering all bigger cities in Croatia. Our executive committee has seven voluntary members, plus eight branch presidents, all dedicated in promoting the association's goals.
HUPE's annual conferences are held under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, Education, and Sports. The 2015 conference was organized in cooperation with the Education and Teacher Training Agency (AZOO).
