Mayra C. Daniel, Candidate
TESOL Board of Directors, 2018–2021

Mayra C. Daniel, Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, Illinois, USA, is a candidate for the TESOL Board of Directors. If elected, she will serve from 2018 to 2021. More information is available below the video.

Candidate’s Statement

The TESOL organization is a force that is needed in today’s perilous world. TESOL’s greatest challenge is to continue to be a vehicle for peace and social justice in language education and to advocate for the rights of speakers of all languages. As a Board member, I will support TESOL’s mission to advance “the quality of ELT through professional development, research, standards, and advocacy”. I will collaborate with TESOL colleagues to continue to learn about TESOL’s work around the world, share TESOL’s vision, address threats to the ELT field, and advocate for the work of the association. I will conscientiously address TESOL’s fiscal responsibilities, support thoughtful decision making, and remain cognizant of the needs of the entire membership and the multiplicity of foci within the field. I will support the efforts of educators across the world in their efforts to discover how to raise the level of academic achievement of the learners in their classrooms, and look for more effective ways for TESOL to support today’s increasingly plurilingual and pluricultural populations.
