Charge
The Rules and Resolutions Committee processes all resolutions for presentation at the annual business meeting at the TESOL convention. It also reviews and recommends any editorial corrections to TESOL's governance documents upon the request of the board of directors.
Activities
Resolutions may be proposed by affiliates, interest sections, standing committees, the board of directors, or individual TESOL members in good standing. The Rules and Resolution Committee reviews the resolutions are put before the voting members. On request of the board of directors, the committee also oversees the implementation of approved resolutions.
Responsibilities
It is important that members of the committee be able to attend the annual convention for three consecutive years in order to assist in the resolutions process. All members must be able to carefully review governance documents and communicate their opinions on issues to the chair.
Qualifications
Members should be knowledgeable about the field of ESL/EFL and the structure of the TESOL organization and have a basic understanding of the purpose, objectives, and structure of a resolution and the way it is approved in TESOL. A member of the Rules and Resolutions Committee must enjoy working with the intricacies of the English language, and have strong editorial skills and an interest in the work of the committee.
