More than 75 TESOL professionals descended on Washington, DC, 19–21 June 2016, for the tenth annual TESOL Advocacy & Policy Summit. Over the course of the three-day summit, the teachers were briefed on education policies affecting English learners by policy experts from the Department of Education, American Federation of Teachers, American Immigration Council, Migrant Legal Action Program, and other organizations.
On the final day, participants visited more than 100 offices of representatives in both the House and Senate. Before heading to the Hill, however, participants received advocacy training, talking points, and policy briefs, and they strategized with other TESOL professionals in order to strengthen the messages they brought with them to their meetings.
Please join your colleagues next year for this opportunity to sharpen your policy knowledge and become a stronger advocate for English learners and the TESOL profession. See you next year, 18–20 June 2017, in Washington, DC.
