More About This Course

This course prepares participants to create multimedia lessons and materials for online delivery. Using templates and models, you will customize online multimedia materials. Participants will experiment with a variety of such materials and determine appropriate use for their students. The use of pre-existing multimedia will also be addressed.

What Will I Learn?

  • Identifying media needs and possibilities
  • Creating and editing audio and video
  • Creating and editing images
  • Using web based templates for interactive exercise creation
  • Using authoring programs for interactive exercise creation
  • Understand the relevant copyright and fair-use restrictions on pre-existing media use.
  • Course-specific requirements: The instructor will require participants to download software, or to use already owned software, for applications for video editing such as iMovie or Movie Maker; photo editing such as Photoshop and Graphic Converter; audio editing like Audacity or GarageBand and exercise creation like Hot Potatoes.
Participants should be familiar with navigation in the Desire2Learn Website, able to download items from the site, including being able to read PDF files and various kinds of media. Participants may need to have access to some kind of video recording device that they are comfortable with (preferably a webcam) but this is not required. They will need to have access to a microphone for their computer, or a way to import self-recorded sounds into their computer.
