Preparing Your TESOL P-12 Teacher Education Program for NCATE/CAEP National Recognition

Who Should Attend: Faculty and staff from institutions seeking NCATE/CAEP recognition that need their ESL teacher education program recognized as part of that process.

WORKSHOP SUMMARY

This workshop will cover in detail the recently revised TESOL P–12 ESL Teacher Education Program Standards and will provide training for faculty and staff in preparing their institution’s program report.

You are urged to take advantage of the individual one-hour consulting session in the afternoon. Survey results show that when campus representatives attend the workshop and a consulting session, their programs have a greater chance of attaining NCATE/CAEP recognition after their first submission of a program report.

Prior to attending the workshop, please acquaint yourself with the standards and guidance documents.

AGENDA:
8:30 am–12 pm
Program report compilers will be grouped alongside program reviewers, providing an opportunity for you to learn what criteria program reviewers use to evaluate TESOL program reports.

The agenda includes:
•    Brief history of the development of the TESOL P-12 ESL Teacher Education Program Standards
•    Information and overview of the TESOL P–12 ESL Teacher Education Program Standards
•    Preparing the program report (e.g., timelines, data collection, evidence, institutional responsibilities)
•    Overview of CAEP review process
•    Collecting and presenting performance evidence (e.g., measuring standards)
•    Questions and answers

OPTIONAL PRIVATE AFTERNOON CONSULTING SESSION

You may schedule a private, one-hour session with an expert program reviewer, who will provide individualized feedback on your institution’s data. This feedback will help you compile a successful TESOL program report.

If you plan to attend the consulting session, please bring all relevant materials you have prepared, including two copies of sample assessments, and any rubrics and aggregated data you may have.

Registration in advance is required for all consulting sessions, however registration for the workshop will be available on site. Discounts are available for registering in advance, and for institutions sending more than one participant.
