IS Newsletter Editor Responsibilities and Benefits

The newsletter editor solicits articles and, with help from TESOL staff, oversee production for the interest section's e-newsletter, an important member benefit. Newsletters are one of the main reasons TESOL professionals join TESOL, so the newsletter editor plays a vital role in meeting the needs of TESOL members.

Term of Service

  • Minimum of one year

Overall Responsibilities

  • Creates two to four e-newsletters per year
  • Works with the IS leadership and others to gather content of interest to the IS membership
  • Works with TESOL staff to review and format content
  • With TESOL staff, develops an e-newsletter timeline

Convention Responsibilities

  • Attend the IS newsletter editors meeting

Resources and Support

  • Professional copy editor who edits all IS e-newsletter content to APA style
  • TESOL staff member who helps review content and formats newsletters
  • TESOL editor to answer general copyright and editorial questions


  • Face-to-face training and orientation to editing and production
  • Expand leadership skills and increase your professional contacts
  • Contribute to knowledge production in the field
  • Stay up-to-date on trends in the field
  • Listserv for newsletter editors
