ISLC Chair Responsibilities

The Interest Section Leadership Council (ISLC) Chair has the following responsibilities:
  • Initiates conference calls throughout the year with ISLC members, TESOL staff, and board liaisons
  • Assists other ISLC members with their work between conventions
  • Writes reports for staff and board liaisons before the March and October board meetings. October’s report should include summaries of the minutes from each IS’s open meeting.
  • Ensures that IS chairs follow established procedures for elections, proposal vetting, newsletters, elists, and other IS activities
  • Ensures that all IS chairs, chairs-elect, and incoming chairs-elect receive the “Academic Program Submission, Selection, and Evaluation Process, Procedures, and Deadlines” as soon as possible before the convention
  • Invites newly elected ISLC member to the pre-conference planning conference calls 
  • Works with the staff liaison in January to ensure that IS leaders receive a list of the scheduled meetings that they should attend at the convention
  • Chairs the Annual IS Leader’s Workshop
  • Chairs the Annual IS Assembly
  • Conducts the segment of the IS Assembly on vetting convention proposals, including inviting IS leaders to present on topics like best practices and successful strategies for vetting proposals
  • Acknowledges and thanks the past chair for his/her service 
  • Passes the baton to the chair-elect at the end of the IS Assembly
