Global Neighbors

Purpose

The goal of Global Neighbors, the EFL-IS newsletter, is to present information about the specialized professional interests of its membership to keep them abreast of current knowledge, practices, and materials related to that particular area of expertise.

Audience

Global Neighbors is primarily oriented to teachers and teacher trainers outside the United States and to teachers who wish to teach outside the United States at all levels of education, English for specific purposes, and language institutes. Each of these settings has teachers with special experience, expertise, and needs.

Vision

  • Global Neighbors is an online publication comprising solicited and unsolicited articles.
  • It provides articles for teachers and administrators on strategies, activities, and ideas to enhance their skills and effectiveness in developing lessons, curricula, programs, materials, and evaluation instruments. It also provides a forum where educators can voice their opinions on topics related to these areas.
  • Its content is immediately accessible and practical. It publishes articles that are professional in style, written in language that is clear and understandable to all EFL educators.
  • It strive to publish material in each issue that address all of its constituent audiences.
  • It provides a forum for connecting EFL teachers around the world, alerts EFL-IS members in the United States to the special needs of EFL teachers, and provides information and ideas on teaching methods and research that relates to the reality of EFL teaching around the globe.

Call for Submissions

Submissions are accepted throughout the year and may be edited for length and clarity. Deadlines for contributions to our planned quarterly issues are 1 March, 1 June, 1 September, and 1 December.

Articles

Maximum 1,750 words.

Day in the Life

EFL-IS members teach in a wide variety of contexts and settings. Share yours with us! If you wish, you can allow one of the editors to interview you via email. Just contact the editors at the e-mail addresses listed in the submission guidelines (400–600 words). 

The Other Hand

If you have a strong opinion about an emerging or salient issue, this is the place for you. Tell us what you think! This column might also feature excerpts from responses to issues or questions raised on the e-list (400–600 words). 

Classroom Idea Exchange

What has worked in your classroom? Describe the activity or technique in a short and practical manner (200–300 words). 

Conference Reports

If you have been to a professional conference recently, write a report about the experience, sessions, speakers, etc. (200–400 words).

Book and Resource Reviews

These reviews might be formal notices, but they can also be more subjective or conversational recommendations (300–500 words). 

Announcements

In addition, EFL-IS Newsletter publishes conference announcements and a variety of other relevant information of professional interest to our members.
