Metro Toronto Convention Center, Ontario Canada

An interactive one-day program for teachers and administrators of adult education programs

Overview

TESOL International Association invites adult education instructors and administrators as well as volunteers working in adult education programs to attend Adult Ed Day in Toronto, Ontario Canada, prior to the start of TESOL’s International Convention.

This brand-new, one of a kind event is designed exclusively for adult educators and features 20 workshops on a variety of topics such as innovative teaching practices, administration and programming, funding, language standards and assessment, and ways to remove barriers to language teaching and learning.

Adult Ed Day provides a wealth of professional development and networking opportunities, concurrent sessions throughout the day, and a late-morning keynote by Dr. Jim Cummins followed by lunch. The day concludes with a panel discussion on immigration policies and their implications for TESOL.

Jim Cummins, OISE/University of Toronto

Universal Design in Teaching English Learners: Articulating Evidence-Based New Basics

Universal Design involves designing products and spaces so that they can be used by the widest range of people possible. The presentation applies this principle to teaching ELLs by describing evidence-based instructional principles that are applicable to a wide range of learners (e.g., adults, K–12, refugees, exceptional students).
