An interactive education program for primary and secondary mainstream and ESL teachers and administrators

Overview

TESOL invites all mainstream teachers and administrators to join a group of distinguished international and local ESL experts for a day of interactive training at TESOL’s K–12 Dream Day in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. 

K-12 Dream Day is designed to equip attendees with new strategies and resources for working with English language learners (ELLs).

Sessions for 2015 focus on teaching and assessment, ELL engagement, social justice, intervention, technology, leadership, and much more. Participants will enjoy a late-morning keynote by Dr. Jim Cummins followed by lunch, and the day will conclude with a panel discussion on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and ELLs.

Universal Design in Teaching English Learners: Articulating Evidence-Based New Basics

Universal Design involves designing products and spaces so that they can be used by the widest range of people possible. The presentation will apply this principle to teaching English learners by describing evidence-based instructional principles that are applicable to a wide range of learners (e.g., adults, K-12, refugees, exceptional students).

STEM Panel

STEM and ELLs: Consider the Possibilities

Panelists: Anita Vazquez Batisti, Nancy Cloud, Charlease Kelly-Jackson, Kristin Lems, Paula Markus, W. Jason Stegemoller

A panel of experts shares their initiatives designed to extend STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education to ELLs. These projects focus on classroom-oriented teacher development emphasizing academic language proficiency and content learning for ELLs.

Panelists will share key findings and offer resources to others wishing to engage in STEM education for ELLs.
