  • The Materials Writers Newsletter serves the membership as a forum to discuss issues, perspectives, trends, and concerns related to materials writers, ESOL publishing, and the application of educational theory to textbooks, online materials, CD-ROMs, learning dictionaries, newspapers, and so forth.

    Purpose
The goal of the Materials Writers Newsletter is to provide informative theoretical and practical articles to its readers as well as a forum for discussion of related concerns, a sharing of professional experiences that might help our colleagues in their professional development.

    Audience
The Materials Writers Newsletter is primarily oriented to ESOL materials writers, editors, and publication specialists at all educational levels: K-12, tertiary, IEP, and adult/migrant education.

    Vision

    1. The Materials Writers Newsletter is membership owned and operated with a volunteer editor who serves for 2 years.
    2. All IS members may submit articles that provide strategies, activities, or ideas to create or enhance materials and make them more effective for the language learners who use them. Articles may also be directed to the special issues of Materials Writers Newsletter, including equitable pay, issues concerning contracts with publishing houses, legal issues concerning copyright, copyright infringement, and permission to use graphics/artwork of others in materials.
    3. Articles may also be solicited by the editor from specialists in the field to address specific issues and concerns.
    4. The contents of the Materials Writers Newsletter are accessible and applicable in nature; they are written in clear and concise language.
    5. The Materials Writers Newsletter is not the medium for promotion of individual publications, nor of one specific publishing house. However, on a space available basis, the promotion of TESOL publications will be allowed using the preprepared blurbs sent out by the Central Office.
