  • New Ways in Teaching Reading, Revised Edition

    Deadline: 1 November 2011

TESOL seeks classroom reading ideas specifically for young learners and for teaching reading using the Internet. If you would like to contribute, please contact the editor, Richard R. Day, at richardrday@gmail.com.

One of TESOL’s bestselling books, New Ways in Teaching Reading (NWTR) is undergoing revision for a second edition under the direction of Richard R. Day, editor. NWTR is a collection of activities and exercises contributed by teachers who have used them in their teaching of reading in ESL and EFL classrooms around the world.

Two areas have been identified for new contributions that address classroom ideas for reading:

    • Young learners: Contributions are needed to address issues that have emerged in the last decade about teaching young learners.
    • Internet: Contributions are needed to fill a major gap in the current edition about using the Internet for teaching reading.

The new edition will continue with the at-a-glance, simple lesson plan. All contributions should follow as closely as possible the format of the current edition:

    • Length: 400–800 words

      Sections
    • Title
    • Levels (Beginning, High Beginning, Intermediate, etc.)
    • Aims (e.g., encourage students to read outside of class)
    • Class Time (preferably brief, e.g., 10 minutes)
    • Preparation Time
    • Resources
    • Procedure
    • Caveats and Options (e.g., how to shorten or alter for different situations)
    • References and Further Reading
    • Appendix (e.g., sample word list)
    • Contributor (brief bio, e.g., 35 words)
All contributions will be vetted by the editor and reviewed by the TESOL Book Publications Committee.

Copyright: TESOL asks all contributors to assign their copyright to the association. The author(s) will be asked to sign a contract during the production cycle for the volume. Please do not submit work that has been previously published, currently under consideration elsewhere, or already under contract, and do not submit work for which you wish to retain copyright.
