TESOL Responds to Every Child Achieves Act

TESOL International Association, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), and the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) released a joint statement on the Every Child Achieves Act, the Senate proposal to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. In the statement, the organizations provide suggestions for strengthening the bill and for ensuring education excellence and equity for English language learners.  Recommendations include funding for native language assessments, increasing opportunity for multilingualism, support for students with interrupted formal education, and early childhood education programs.
