TESOL International Association recently joined Arizona TESOL
(AZTESOL) in a letter addressed to the Arizona State Board of Education
, supporting new college-and career-readiness indicators that would require students to have two-years of foreign language instruction. Citing the numerous cognitive benefits of speaking a second language, both TESOL and AZTESOL advised the A-F School Accountability Ad Hoc Advisory Committee
to include foreign or second language high school course work, or demonstrated proficiency, as an indicator of college-and career-readiness.
