Pre- and Postconvention Institutes
Pre- and Postconvention institutes (PCIs) offer in-depth, hands-on professional development at the TESOL convention. Selected by the Professional Development Committee, these workshops are designed and led by experts in the field. The topics address the professional development needs that convention planners and past PCI participants have identified. Topics this year include content-based instruction, computer-assisted language learning, personal development, pronunciation, writing, material development, and much more. more info.
TESOL Leadership Development Certificate Program
TESOL will offer two strands of Leadership Development Certificate Program (LDCP) workshops at the TESOL 2011 convention in New Orleans, covering a wide variety of key leadership themes and skills, from advocacy and governance to strategic planning and supervision. Developed by the TESOL board of directors, the LDCP is open for registration to all TESOL members. more info.

TESOL 2011 Educational Site Visits
Educational site visits offer convention registrants the opportunity to visit schools and centers that have large numbers English language learners enrolled. Research: People, Practices, and Processes

This preconvention event, hosted by TESOL’s Standing Committee on Research, explores practical issues in TESOL research. Through hands-on tasks and discussions of research goals and challenges, language educators new to research as well as those with some experience will explore ways different TESOL research perspectives and practices can answer questions about classroom teaching and learning.

Doctoral Forum
The 2011 Doctoral Forum is a one-day miniconference that is a collaboration between doctoral students and TESOL faculty and professionals. Students attending the forum can
- Meet and network with doctoral students, faculty from other universities, and professionals working in TESOL-related fields
- Share experiences and expertise in
- Research methods
- Dissertation processes
- Teaching and learning experiences
- Helpful resources
- Participate in formal presentations on dissertation work

Graduate Student Foroum
Hosted by Eastern Michigan University, the Graduate Student Forum (GSF) is a one-day miniconference that invites graduate students in TESOL teacher preparation programs to
- Share the results of their research, their teaching ideas and experiences, and the materials they have developed
- Meet and network with graduate students (and faculty) at other universities
- Formally participate in the TESOL convention without having to meet the early deadlines for submitting proposals or to compete with experienced professionals for time on the convention program
- Experience the process of organizing a conference and adjudicating proposals
The GSF is organized by a team of Eastern Michigan University graduate students lead by Dr. Jeff Popko. Southeastern Missouri State will be hosting the event at the TESOL 2012 convention and will be helping support the 2011 GSF in preparation for 2012.
