Who's Eligible: Any TESOL member who has completed an empirical research project and a subsequent scholarly paper that has been accepted for publication in 2007 in TESOL Quarterly or another scholarly journal.
Purpose: To recognize excellence in any area of research on language teaching and learning.
Amount: US$1,000. The funds for this award are donated by Thomson Heinle Publishers.
Criteria: Manuscripts are evaluated for (a) the significance of the issue to the field of language learning and teaching in TESOL; (b) the awareness of relevant scholarship related to the issue or problem; (c) the clarity with which any theoretical considerations, research questions, or models related to the issue or problem are presented; (d) evidence of appropriate research methods and analysis, regardless of methodological paradigm; (e) the persuasiveness of the argument presented and the conclusions drawn; and (f) the clarity of the writing.
To Apply: All full-length articles by TESOL members already accepted for publication in TESOL Quarterly are automatically considered for the award. To submit articles (written by TESOL members) that have been published or accepted for publication in another scholarly journal, send 1 copy of each of the following: (a) a cover sheet with your name (as it appears on TESOL membership), address, telephone, e-mail address, and TESOL membership numbers, if available, (b) the article(s) with complete bibliographic data, and (c) a 50-word biography.
Due Date: Applications must be received on or before November 1.
