Degree Offered: MA
Length of Program: Normally two years (4 semesters)
Program Requirements: 30 semester credit hours; comprehensive examination; competence in another language; thesis optional
Courses Offered: English Structure; Special topics in Applied linguistics; Second Language Development; Language and Culture; Teaching Academic Writing to Non-native English Speakers; Introduction to Linguistics; Seminar in Linguistics; History of English. Students are also allowed to take L2 language acquisition related courses offered in the school’s Modern Languages Department and College of Education.

Admission Requirements: A bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.00; a minimum combined score of 1000 on the GRE test; a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (100 ibt) for international students; a writing sample; three letters of recommendation.
Tuition, Fees, and Aid: Currently, all admitted students are awarded a Teaching/research assistantship that comes with a full tuition waiver and a stipend. General: The program aims to equip students with not only all the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills but also practical experience in TESOL. With their TA/RAship, students will be able to co-teach/teach freshmen composition designed for nonnative English speakers; students will also conduct a one semester apprenticeship/internship at the school’s English Language Institute.
