Degree Offered: MA in applied linguistics.

Length of Program: 2 years (without summer session) or 4 semesters. Students may be full-time or part-time and must begin in the fall.

Program Requirements: 82 points (41 credits in the US system). Competence in Spanish and English is required. A practicum, a thesis, and 20 professional development points acquired through attendance at special lectures; participation in seminars and workshops; presentations at conferences, symposia, and colloquia; and publication of articles in national and international journals are required. A comprehensive examination is not required.

Admission Requirements: The university requires a BA or the equivalent, preferably in linguistics, second languages, education, psychology, literature, or a related area; one official copy of the transcript of the BA or equivalent degree plus a copy; a GPA of 3.0 (U.S. system) or a B for the undergraduate degree; a current curriculum vitae; a completed application form; three academic letters of recommendation; a TOEFL score of at least 550 or Cambridge First Certificate (Level B) if English is not the first language; proof of advanced proficiency in Spanish if it is not the first language; an academic writing sample; three letters of recommendation, two interviews; and fulfillment of the university's academic, legal, and institutional admissions requirements.

Tuition, Fees, and Aid: Tuition and fees may be consulted at http://www.udlap.mx/admisiones/posgrados.html. University educational loans are available for Mexican and non-Mexican residents. Decanato de Investigación y Posgrado scholarships, graduate teaching assistantships, and graduate research assistantships (for both Mexican and International students) are available. In the fall of each year, four 50% scholarships are awarded to the students with the highest GPA averages in their BAs.

General: The program is fully bilingual and bicultural, accredited by the Ministry of Public Education of Mexico as well as by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools of the United States. Mexican students can obtain financial aid from the Ministry of Public Education of Mexico, and participants from the United States can procure college loans from institutions in the United States as well as obtain Fulbright, Rotary, and other scholarships from US organizations. Students may choose to attend courses abroad, transferring the credits back to the program.
