Degree Offered: MAT with ESL endorsement.

Length of Program: 4-6 semesters. Students may be full-time or part-time and may begin their study at the beginning of the winter, spring or summer semester.

Program Requirements: 24 credits for endorsement; 36 credits for MAT with endorsement. 10 hours of observation, 10 hours of practice teaching and 10 hours of classroom assisting are required. A thesis required. A comprehensive exam is required by the Michigan Department of Education before endorsement is added to certificate.

Courses Offered: (*required) For Endorsement: *Linguistically and Culturally Responsive Teaching Practice; *Introduction to Teaching ESL; *Advanced Methods and Materials of Teaching ESL; *Assessment and Evaluation in ESL; *Second Language Acquisition; *School and Culture in the 21st Century; *Theories of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism; *Practicum: ESL. For Masters, in addition to above: *three-credit elective; *Inquiry Based Literacy and Differentiated Instruction; *Research Methods, Design and Analysis; *Master Teaching Project.

Admission Requirements: A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for admission into the graduate program, in addition to the completion of an application packet.

Tuition, Fees, and Aid: All students, US$450 per credit hour. Fees are texts, supplies, credential fees. Scholarships and federal aid are available.

General: Small class size allows for great interpersonal discussion within classroom. All courses taught by full-time or adjunct instructors with extensive experience in the field and who are readily available to the graduate professional. This program leads to a state credential in TESOL. The ESL program is also available as a minor (24 credits) for initial certification for traditional undergraduate students and graduate students in the Master in Education with Initial Certification Program.
None of this program is available via distance learning.
