Degree Offered: MA in applied linguistics.
Length of Program: 4 semesters. Students may be full-time or part-time and may enter the program in the fall semester.
Program Requirements: 33 units plus 12 prerequisite units which may be taken concurrently if necessary. Competence in a language other than English is required. 50 hours of practice teaching is required if students are doing a concentration in TESOL. A comprehensive examination is required; a thesis is not required. Program prerequisites and 8 additional graduate units may be transferred in.

Admission Requirements: The university requires a bachelor's degree with minimum GPA of 3.0, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and completion of the regular application packet. Although unaffiliated with any church or denomination, the university accepts only students who are evangelical Christians. Nonnative speakers of English must have a TOEFL CBT score of 250 plus TWE 5 or an IELTS score of 7.0.
Tuition, Fees, and Aid: All students, US$387 per semester unit. Limited financial aid from the university or the School of Intercultural Studies is available as teaching assistantships or grants. Some special funds are available for students committed to Bible translation.
General: The program prepares students with a theoretical, practical, and spiritual foundation for solving language-related human problems in the U.S. and around the world such as bilingual and multilingual education, language planning, lexicography, literacy, second language acquisition, translation, and the development of writing systems. The Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) association with the department enriches the applied linguistics program and enables students to learn from instructors with Wycliffe experience and to take courses necessary for membership in Wycliffe and other similar organizations. Students also benefit from being able to take classes from Talbot School of Theology.
Fieldwork with SIL in many locations around the world is possible.
None of this program is available via distance learning.
The university has an intensive English language program for nonnative speakers.
