Degree Offered: MA in TESOL.
Length of Program: 4 semesters. Students may be full-time or part-time and may enter the program in the fall semester.
Program Requirements: 32 units plus 9 prerequisite units which may be taken concurrently if necessary. Program prerequisites and 8 additional graduate units may be transferred in. For native speakers of English, competence in a language other than English is recommended. 50 hours of observation and practice teaching is required. Neither a thesis nor a comprehensive exam is required. A portfolio is required.

Admission Requirements: The university requires a bachelor's degree with minimum GPA of 3.0, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and completion of the regular application packet. Although unaffiliated with any church or denomination, the university accepts only students who are evangelical Christians. Nonnative speakers of English must have a TOEFL CBT score of 250 plus TWE 5 or an IELTS score of 7.0.
Tuition, Fees, and Aid: All students, US$387 per unit. Limited financial aid from the university or the School of Intercultural Studies is available as teaching assistantships or grants.
General: MA TESOL students benefit from the focus of a Department of Applied Linguistics and TESOL, the emphasis of the School of Intercultural Studies, and the resources of the entire university with its mission of biblically centered education, scholarship and service. The aim of the TESOL programs is to prepare Christians to teach with professional preparation, contextual sensitivity, cultural appropriateness, and ethical service. Teachers are prepared to work with international students or immigrants in an adult ESL context or a variety of students in an EFL context, not only in teaching, but also program administration, teacher training, course design, materials development, and assessment. Department faculty have extensive international experience. The student body is usually balanced between U.S. citizens and international students.
International practicum options may be arranged.
This program is available in its entirety via distance learning. An online version of the MA TESOL is starting in a pilot stage in 07-08. It is designed for teachers who have at least three years of experience.
The university has an intensive English language program for nonnative speakers.
