Degree Offered: TESOL MA.

Length of Program: 4 semesters. Students must be full-time and may begin their study at the beginning of the fall or summer semester.

Program Requirements: 33 semester hours. Competence in a language other than English is required for native speakers of English. 3 hours observation and 60 hours of practice teaching are required. A thesis is required; a comprehensive examination is not required.

Courses Offered: (*required) *Research Design in TESOL; *Research Data Analysis; *TESOL Seminar; Master's thesis; two classes from: Phonetics, Phonology, Teaching Culture, Pronunciation Theory and Pedagogy, Grammar Usage, Interlanguage Analysis, Language Testing, TESOL Reading and Writing, Advanced Methodology, Advanced Materials Development, TESOL Supervision - Administration Internship, Academic Internship.

Admission Requirements: Students must be accepted into the TESOL Graduate Certificate program. While working on the TESOL Graduate Certificate, the MA applicant will turn in a thesis/project proposal along with the GRE to the department office. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0. Nonnative English speaking students must have a TOEFL score of 580 (CBT 237; iBT 90).

Tuition, Fees, and Aid: US$2,430 per semester for Latter-day Saint students, US$4,860 for non Latter-day Saint students. Teaching assistantships and scholarships are available.

General: BYU's TESOL Graduate MA program provides professional-level preparation for careers in teaching English to speakers of other languages in any of the following areas: intensive English programs at universities, ESL/EFL courses for private companies, community college and university-level ESL courses, adult education ESL programs for immigrants and refugees, English as a foreign language (in non-English speaking countries), supervision/administration of ESL/EFL programs and ESL/EFL teacher preparation.
     None of this program is available via distance learning. 
     The university has an English Language Center that attracts students from all over the world where our TESOL students do practice teaching
