Degree Offered: MA in TESOL.

Length of Program: 5 semesters. Students may be full-time or part-time and may begin the program at the beginning of the spring or fall semester.

Program Requirements: 33 credits. Competence in a language other than English is required. 15-20 hours of practice teaching is required. Students with a GPA of 3.7 in graduate coursework may complete a thesis or project in place of the comprehensive exam

Courses Offered: (*required) *Research and Testing in TESOL; *ESL Writing; *Sociolinguistics; *Grammar; *Second Language Acquisition; *Spoken English; *ESL Reading; *Practicum; *Culminating Experience; two electives.

Full-Time Staff: Roberta Ching, John Clark, Dana Ferris, Marie Helt, Julian Heather (coordinator), Fred Marshall, Sue McKee.

Admission Requirements: Completion of four prerequisite courses: Linguistics and the English Language; Writing in the Social Sciences; Second Language Learning; Grammar for ESL Teaching. Nonnative speakers of English must have a TOEFL score of 600 (CBT 250) with TWE of 5 or TOEFL iBT of 100 with 24 on writing.

Tuition, Fees, and Aid: For in-state students, US $1,383 for up to 6 units; US$2,100 for 7 or more units; for out-of-state students, in-state tuition plus US$339 per unit. Grants, loans and teaching assistantships are available.

General: The goals of the TESOL Programs at CSU Sacramento are to provide students with a thorough grounding in the structure of English; give students a solid background in language acquisition theory; and provide practical training, including a unique methodology series, a carefully designed practicum, and a large variety of for-credit and paid internship opportunities.
     None of this program is available via distance learning. 
     The university has an intensive English language program for nonnative speakers.
