Degree Offered: MA in English with a TESL concentration.

Length of Program: 4 semesters for the MA;(Including a summer session) 2-3 semesters for the certificate. Students may be full-time or part-time and may begin the program at the beginning of any semester.

Program Requirements: 33 semester hours for the MA; 21 semester hours for the certificate. Competence in a language other than English is required. A minimum of 10 hours of observation and 15 hours of practice teaching are required. Either a thesis or a comprehensive examination is required.

Courses Offered: (*required) *TESL Grammar; *Second Language Acquisition; *TESL Methods; *Testing and Evaluation; *Research; *Linguistics; English electives.

Admission Requirements: Students must have graduate standing. The degree does not require an undergraduate English degree; however, it does require that students complete 10 hours of English plus the 6 hours of beginning composition. Non-native English speakers must have a TOEFL score of 550.

General: Observation and practica are available at intensive English programs near campus and through campus programs designed to help ESL students improve their English language skills.
     Some of the courses are available on interactive video, and one is available on the Internet.
     The university has an intensive English language program for nonnative speakers of English.
