Degree Offered: MA in linguistics for TESOL professionals

Length of Program: 3-4 semesters. Students may be full-time or part-time and must begin their study at the beginning of the fall semester.

Program Requirements: 30 semester credits: 12 credits in graduate linguistics courses, 12 credits in required TESOL courses, 3 credit practicum, one 3-credit elective. Some TESOL courses are taught in the division of language and literacy in the School of Education on the Denver campus of the university. Native speakers of English must show evidence of third year proficiency in a foreign language. A comprehensive examination and teaching portfolio are required.

Courses Offered: (*required) *Morphology and Syntax; *Phonetics; *Phonology; *Semantics; *Methods of TESOL; *English Grammar for TESOL; *Techniques for TESOL; Teaching English Pronunciation; electives in linguistics, communication, education, second language acquisition, or other relevant areas.

Admission Requirements: Nonnative speakers of English must have a TOEFL score of 550 or evidence of successful completion of a college degree using English as the language of instruction.

     None of this program is available via distance learning. 
     The university has an intensive English language program for nonnative English speakers.
