Degree Offered: MA TEFL / intercultural studies.

Length of Program: one calendar year. Students may be full-time or part-time and begin the program at the beginning of the fall semester.

Program Requirements: 31 semester hours. 100 hours of practice teaching is required. Competence in a language other than English is not required. Neither a thesis nor a comprehensive examination is required.

Courses Offered: (*required) *Theoretical Foundations of Language Learning; *Introduction to Linguistics; *English Syntax; *Techniques of TEFL: Speaking, Listening, Reading; *Techniques of TEFL: Structure and Composition; *TEFL Practicum 1 and 2; *Curriculum and Testing for Language Programs; *TEFL Internship; *Cultures and Worldviews; *Global Mission and the Local Church; *Intercultural Studies Elective.

Admission Requirements: Admission to the program requires a foundational knowledge in Bible and theology. This requirement may be met by an undergraduate degree in Bible or a 30-hour Bible certificate. Please see the admissions section of the website for more information. CIU is a private, religious school. Applicants must affirm the doctrinal statement, and must show evidence of Christian conversion and character, evidence of the ability to pursue an academic program successfully, evidence of effective use of English, and a baccalaureate degree from and accredited institution. Nonnative speakers of English must have a TOEFL score of 600 (CBT 250; iBT 100).

Tuition, Fees, and Aid: All students, US$425 per semester hour. Fees are US$200-$300. Federal and state loans and institutional scholarships are available.

General: The MA TEFL/ICS at CIU gives students a strong theoretical and practical foundation for professional language teaching. The focus of CIU's program is preparation to teach the adult learner, with a strong emphasis on cultural competence and classroom skills. Students finish the program with close to 100 hours of classroom teaching experience. Our core values include professionalism, service, and integrity.  Students have the opportunity to fulfill their internship requirement by participating in a CIU sponsored team overseas or in the U.S. Our overseas sites have included: Korea, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Russian, Moldova, Indonesia, Thailand, China, the Czech Republic and Costa Rica.  The intercultural studies courses may be completed by independent distance learning.
