Degree Offered: MA in education with a TESL concentration.

Length of Program: 18 months-2 years. Students may be full-time or part-time and may begin the program at the beginning of any semester.

Program Requirements: 36 semester hours. Competence in a language other than English is required for native speakers of English; English meets the requirement for nonnative speakers of English. Practice teaching and a thesis are required. A comprehensive examination is not required.

Courses Offered: Methods of TESL/FL; Foundations of Literacy; Literacy Assessment; Word Study; Teaching Diverse Learners; Grammars of English; Language and Culture.

Full-Time Staff: Michael Medley.

Admission Requirements: The university requires a BA degree and VA licensure test scores.

Tuition, Fees, and Aid: All students, US$2,700 per semester.

General: The program is in a private, Christian university setting; the emphasis on is peace and justice issues, ethics, and service. The program leads to a state credential in TESOL.  The cross-cultural seminar involves visits to the Navaho Nation, Puerto Rico and other places. The program offers limited distance education.
     The university has an intensive English language program for nonnative speakers.
