Degree Offered: MAT in ESL.
Length of Program: 2 years. Students may be full-time or part-time and may begin the program at the beginning of the fall, spring or summer semester.
Program Requirements: 36 credits. Competence in a language other than English is not required. 210 hours of practice teaching and no more than 30 hours of observation are required. A final project is required. Neither a thesis nor a comprehensive examination is required.
Courses Offered: Instructional Theory and Practice; Effective Teaching/Effective Schools; Generic Courses/Second Language Acquisition; Second Language Acquisition: Methods and Curriculum; *SLA: Internship /Seminar I; *SLA: Internship/Seminar II; (Assistantship may be substituted); *Assessment in the Second Language Classroom; Literacy Development for Second Language Learners; Specialization Courses; Comparative Phonology for Language Teachers; Applied Linguistics for Language Teachers; Behavioral Science for Teachers: Language and Culture in the Classroom; Behavioral Science for Teachers: The Multicultural Classroom; added requirements for MAT degree, Final Project: Second Language Acquisition.

Admission Requirements: Students must have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher, a BA in liberal arts or a BS with at least 60 liberal arts credits. Native and non-native speakers of English must have Advanced High on the LTI Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency Test. This program is not open to international students.
Tuition, Fees, and Aid: All students, US$816 per graduate credit (2006-2007). Fees are technology fee and others. Teaching assistantships and scholarships are available.
General: Students can qualify for State Certification and a Master of Arts degree in ESL in a single program. We encourage an early practicum. Students can complete clinical internship credits while working as teachers.
None of this program is available via distance learning.
The institution has an intensive English language program for nonnative speakers.
