Degree Offered: MA in multilingual education.

Length of Program: 3 or 4 semesters (summer courses are available). Students must be full-time and may begin their study at the beginning of any semester.

Program Requirements: 33 credits. Competence in a language other than English is not required. Practice teaching is not required. Neither a thesis nor a comprehensive examination is required. A final project is required.

Courses Offered: (*required) Second Language Acquisition Methods and Curriculum; Comparative Phonology for Language Teachers; Applied Linguistics for Language Teachers; Behavioral Science for Teachers: US Language and Culture; Literacy Development for Second Language Learners; Assessment in the Second Language Classroom; Field Project Seminar; Practice and Seminar in Language Instruction; Final Project: Second Language Acquisition; electives: (9 Credits) English Language Education: Grammar for Teachers of English and ESL; Language Teaching through Content Areas; Computers as a Teacher’s Aide: Curriculum & Instruction; Integrating Technology in the Second Language Classroom; Distance Learning and Children’s Literature; Integrating Literacy and Technology Across the Curriculum; Internet for Educators; Advanced Internet for Educators.

Admission Requirements: The university requires two letters of recommendation. This program is not open to international students.


Tuition, Fees, and Aid: All students, US$816 per graduate credit (2006-2007). Fees are technology fee and others. Graduate assistantships up to 20 hours per week are available.

General: The program provides an individualized curriculum. 
     None of this program is available via distance learning.
     The university has an intensive English language program for nonnative speakers.
