Degree Offered: TESOL certificate.

Length of Program
: 2 semesters. Students may be full-time or part-time and may begin the program at the beginning of the fall, spring or summer semester.

Program Requirements
: 15 credits. Competence in a language other than English is optional for native-English-speaking students. Practice teaching is not required. Neither a thesis nor a comprehensive exam is required.

: (*required) *Principles of Linguistics; *English Language Teaching I and II; Structure of English; Second Language Acquisition; Language Acquisition; Cultural Issues in the ESL/EFL Classroom; Language Assessment; Teaching Grammar; Teaching Pronunciation; Reading and Writing in the ESL/EFL Classroom; Curriculum and Materials Design; Computer Applications for Language Teachers; selected topics.

Admission Requirements
: The university requires a minimum of a high school diploma or an equivalent. Graduate-level students must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 is expected. The GRE is required. Nonnative speakers of English must have a TOEFL score of 600 (CBT 250; iBT 100) or higher.
Tuition, Fees, and Aid: All students, US$1,178 per credit hour. International students are required to submit financial documents demonstrating availability of funds for at least one year.
Some financial aid is available for certificate students who do course work during the university's Summer TESOL Institute.
General: The TESOL certificate enables people from all educational backgrounds to gain an essential theoretical foundation plus hands-on teaching experience in order to pursue teaching opportunities either in the United States or elsewhere. Through the annual Summer TESOL Institute, students may complete the program in s single summer.

Part of this program is available via distance learning. ELT I course is offered online during the Summer TESOL Institute.
