TESOL welcomes individual, global electronic, full-time student, retired, part-time employment, new teachers members to the association. TESOL also offers an institutional subscription program for libraries wishing to add TESOL Quarterly and TESOL Journal to their libraries. Membership categories may not be changed except at time of renewal. Membership is individual and nontransferable. TESOL does not provide corporate or institutional memberships.

MEMBERSHIP TYPES

* Professional membership provides a full range of benefits available electronically. This category is the only membership category eligible for the early dues renewal discount.

* Lower Income Professional membership is for individuals, who make an annual income of US$25,000 or less. Lower Income Professional members are not eligible for early renewal discounts.

* The Global Professional membership category offers a discounted membership option for members who are current legal residents or native-born current residents of a country with a gross national income (GNI) per capita of US$15,000 or less (as defined by the United Nations). Global professional members are full members of TESOL but are not eligible for early renewal discounts. As an electronic-only category, members must have a valid e-mail address in order to receive benefits by e-mail.
global professional members may add electronic access to TESOL Quarterly (electronic only; no print copies included) for an additional $45.

A subsidized global outreach membership fund is available to new members who are unable to pay full dues to join. (The fund is not available for membership renewals or subscriptions to TESOL Quarterly.) The members' portion of the dues is as follows:

Global Professional Members: $10
Student Members: $10
Professional Members: $30

Please note: Global Professional Membership is only available to individuals living in countries on the qualified eligible countries list.

Complete the global outreach membership fund application online and attach your membership application to apply. You will be contacted regarding acceptance or not. Please note that this fund is occasionally depleted and a wait list may exist.

* New Professional membership is for those members who have been teaching for 3 years or fewer. This category was established to help students and those new to the profession transition to being teachers by offering a reduced membership fee until they are better established. Maximum participation in the New Professional category is 3 years. Students who have reached the maximum 6 years as student members of TESOL will automatically be converted to the New Professional. No verification is necessary.

* Student membership is for those enrolled at least half-time at a degree granting institution. Students must provide either a note from their advisor or a copy of their valid student ID as verification of current enrollment. Those that join online will have an email automatically sent to their advisor for verification. Maximum participation as a student member is limited to 6 years. Full-time members are not eligible for early renewal discounts.

Students who meet the 6-year eligibility requirement will be automatically converted to the New Professional category which is defined above.
Proof can be provided by sending an email from your advisor to members@tesol.org with TESOL Student Verification in the subject line, faxed to +1 240-396-5631, attention TESOL Student Verification or mailed to: TESOL Member Services, Attn: Student Verification, 1925 Ballenger Ave., Ste. 550, Alexandria, VA 222314 USA.

* Retired Professional members must qualify by having been a TESOL member 5 of the past 10 years, be fully retired from the workforce, and send proof of full-time retirement with their first application. Proof of full-time retirement can be in the form of a letter from your place of retirement on official letterhead, or anything from Social Security or a pension fund indicating retirement. Proof is only required the first time you join as a retired member. Retired members are not eligible for early renewal discounts.
