Charge

The Nominating Committee (NC) solicits nominations from the membership entities, standing committees, and other TESOL constituencies, and from the membership for TESOL elections, i.e. election to the President, the Board of Directors and the next year’s NC.

Responsibilities

The term of service is from January 15 of one year through January 14 of the next year. There are four (8) members with vote on the NC who receive and follow instructions regarding procedures and deadlines from the Chair.  Members maintain communications with the Chair, with most of these communications being held in the first half of the calendar year.  The bulk of the NC's work is done in June and July and members must be available for a series of conference calls during that time. Members participate in all NC conference call meetings and attend meetings at the annual convention.

Qualifications

Members must be TESOL members in good standing for at least four (4) of the previous ten (10) years and be familiar with the TESOL organization.  Familiarity with TESOL is demonstrated by strong service to TESOL within the past six (6) years.  Such service includes active membership in a Standing Committee, task force, or special project; past service on the Board of Directors; and/or leadership in one or more of the following categories of TESOL professional involvement:  Adult Education, Affiliates, Caucuses, Elementary and Secondary Education, Higher Education, Intensive English Programs (IEPs) and Bi-Cultural Centers, Interest Sections, and Research.

Except for the Chair (who is appointed by the Board from the previous year's committee and serves two consecutive terms), other members may not serve more than two terms on the Committee, and the two terms may not be consecutive.
