TESOL Launches New Digital Badges and Certificates for Online Courses and Programs

by David Cutler | 12/10/2019
TESOL International Association is excited to announce the debut of digital badges and certificates that will now be issued for the completion of all TESOL online courses and certificate programs. Participants who complete one of TESOL’s self-study or instructor-led courses, online workshops, or certificate programs will automatically receive a free microcredential that includes a digital badge and electronic certificate.

Digital badges are images that contain information about the recipient, as well as the skills and knowledge gained during the recipient’s course or activity. When compared to a traditional paper certificate, a digital badge contains much more information and allows recipients to share their accomplishments quickly and virtually with current and prospective employers. TESOL’s issuing partner, Accredible, allows anyone to electronically verify each badge’s authenticity, making digital badges an excellent means of verifying continuing education credits. Recipients can also easily share their new credentials via Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Digital badges and certificates issued by TESOL are housed indefinitely at credentials.tesol.org and can be downloaded and transferred to any platform that uses the OpenBadges format.
In addition to badges, TESOL’s new electronic certificates can be downloaded and printed, and also contain a QR code that links directly to the verifiable credential online.
