TESOL International Association Awarded Grant from the U.S. Embassy in India

by Juliet Mason | 02/11/2022
On 9 February, TESOL President Gabriela Kleckova joined U.S. Regional Language Officer India, Ruth Goode, U.S. State Department officials, representatives of the state Ministries of Education, and more than 90 educators to kick off the TESOL Core Certificate ProgramTM (TCCP) for 100 educators in India.

This blended training will feature a virtual Foundations of TESOL course, an in-person Teaching Adolescent Learners course delivered in India by four TESOL instructors in April 2022, and the Training for Trainers course for 25 of the participants with support for cascading training to secondary public-school teachers. Through the train-the-trainers model, this grant will be able to extend far beyond the participants to English educators throughout India. For those selected to participate Ruth Goode, Regional English Language Officer India stated, “A TCCP certificate from TESOL should go on your wall as part of your professional credentials.”

In addition to the blended educational opportunity, TESOL President Gabriela Kleckova welcomed participants to TESOL membership expressing, “Even more than the professional development, the opportunity to be part of your professional home and connect with English educators worldwide is invaluable. No matter where you teach, you will find someone within TESOL in a similar setting or with experience facing similar challenges to engage with. Thank you to the India state governments and U.S. Embassy for partnering with TESOL International Association.”
