WHEREAS one of the most important functions of a professional association is its ability to serve as a collective voice regarding issues relevant to its members’ disciplinary and professional expertise;
WHEREAS 13 of the 16 position statements adopted by TESOL in 2004 through 2006 specifically address policy considerations in the United States;
WHEREAS TESOL is a professional association comprised of members in over 150 countries and derives much of its professional standing from its international scope; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That whenever possible TESOL frame its position statements and advocacy efforts with reference to international standards and conventions and use language that makes them applicable in multiple geographic contexts.
