The TESOL/CAEP (formerly NCATE) P–12 Teacher Education Program standards address the professional expertise needed by ESL educators to work with language minority students. The Commission for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)
uses these performance-based standards for national recognition of teacher education programs.
Also known as the TESOL Professional Teaching Standards, these standards can be used to assess programs that prepare and license P–12 ESL educators, as well as other teacher educator programs.
Please note the TESOL/CAEP Standards for P–12 Teacher Education Programs were officially revised in 2009. All institutions must use the revised standards.

Training for Institutions
A special workshop
for institutions is held each year in conjunction with the annual TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo. Information on the next workshop to be held at the 2017 TESOL International Convention is available on the convention web site
A special virtual seminar for institutions
on the revised TESOL P–12 ESL Teacher Education Program Standards is offered annually, usually in October. The workshop provides an overview of the standards and the information needed to complete and institution's program report.
As a reviewer for the TESOL/CAEP Standards for P–12 Teacher Education Programs project, you can help address how teachers are prepared in the United States to teach ESL to children in P–12 schools.
For more information on how to apply, visit the Call for CAEP Reviewers.
