Welcome to the first 2010 edition of The Affiliate News. The Affiliate News is a great venue for sharing updates from affiliates around the globe, as well as a space to provide information to all affiliate leaders on upcoming events in the TESOL world.

I encourage all of you to review the message from the ALC Chair Donald Weasenforth. His article welcomes four new TESOL affiliates and provides an update on the work of the Affiliate Leadership Council. The Announcements section of the edition includes a welcome to Dorothy Forbin, recently elected Member A, from Yaoundé, Cameroon. This section also includes several items related to the 2010 convention in Boston. All affiliate leaders planning to participate in the convention should review these items to have a preview of the activities designed especially for affiliate leaders.

In this edition we have articles from affiliate leaders in the News and Conference Report sections addressing topics ranging from affiliate activities on the island of Chios, Greece, to upcoming events in the Caribbean and Cancun, Mexico. Two affiliates address innovations in using technology and tensions as technology becomes more integrated into teaching and learning. We also learn about activities from affiliates in the United States from California to Arkansas and globally from Argentina and Haiti to theCzech Republic andSerbia. These articles are inspirational and a good resource for affiliate leaders to get ideas for speakers, along with strategies for planning and organizing professional learning activities.

I encourage each of you to send this newsletter to your affiliate TESOL board, publication editors, and members. The Affiliate News is an ideal vehicle for sharing ideas and resources and, most important, for making connections across our global profession. Thanks to all who have contributed articles toThe Affiliate News. I look forward to seeing many of you in Boston or communicating virtually on the ALC Ning Site at http://affiliateleaders.ning.com.
