TexTESOL III (Texas) rejuvenates the affiliate

Katherine Fouché, Past President of TexTESOL III, http://www.textesol.org/region3

In the past 2 years, TexTESOL III has been restructuring its board and by-laws as well as taking initiatives to build its membership. Despite the enormity of these tasks, we have been successful in bringing aboard insightful and enthusiastic board members who have worked tirelessly in the overhaul of outdated by-laws, revamping our Web site to reflect more current information in a timely manner, and reaching out to constituents beyond the core city of Austin, Texas. Our board now represents K-12, adult education, literacy, publishing, and intensive English programs from two major universities in our area (University of Texas (UT)-Austin and Texas State University) as well as professors and graduate students in various departments from UT-Austin and St. Edward’s University. Our by-laws now represent our core values as an affiliate in addition to a more professional code of ethics and a more transparent protocol for our affiliate’s board of directors. Enormous thanks go out to all who supported this process and continue to support their profession in the Central Texas area.

While the aforementioned is certainly exciting news for an affiliate that was flagging in support and membership less than 3 years ago, our best foot forward was the creation and implementation of the TESOL-TexTESOL III Co-membership Program, which is currently being piloted. There has been great interest in this opportunity to be part of a professional organization and enjoy great savings at the same time. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to TESOL for working with us to realize this project, particularly Jun Liu for believing in our affiliate’s abilities to rise again and Pam Williams for spending time and effort in working out the logistics with us. We look forward to seeing the effects of increased membership.

From TexTESOL III, we wish all our fellow affiliates the best as they forge onward with their own plans and dreams!
