Resource Description: Brains Sparks Labs has just introduced an iPhone app for ESL learners and teachers. It has 1200 open ended questions to start using English in a class room or small group. It can be found by going to the iPhone App store and doing a search on 'Brain Sparks Labs'. The app is named Conversation Starters - Language.
Audience: Adult
Audience Language Proficiency: Intermediate
Duration: Any amount time is useful
Materials and Technology: Needs an iPhone.
Objective(s): It is designed to allow structured practice of language.  It is also fun.
Outcome(s): Students will be able to use things from their own life to share with others.
Activity Description: The app allows you to pick 14 categories of questions.  Jobs, Hobbies, School, etc.  Then you pick a question from that category and start the conversation.. The intent is to have everyone answer.  These questions have been used for over 20 years and always seem to resonate with people.  It generally creates more discussion than just the question as people want to know more about the person and sometimes it goes off on tangents but that should be allowed as it is about practice.
References: These questions were generated over 20 years off actual use.
