Resource Description: OrangeSlice Teacher Rubric is created by Matt Buchanan, who is an efficient teacher at Angola High School. It is an easy and quick way to make rubric selections and convert the analysis or holistic rubric types into percentages or point grades. The categories are customizable and provide instant feedback to the students.
Audience: Elementary, Secondary, University
Audience Language Proficiency: Advanced, Beginner, Intermediate
Type of Assessment Tool: OrangeSlice Teacher Rubric is a Google Docs add-on that will increase your grading productivity and it professionally presents a scored rubric and grade for your students. It gives an opportunity to automatically insert a rubric within a student’s document. The rubric works very well with Google Classroom as the title of the student's document changes with the grade inserted into it. Most importantly, it increases the teacher’s grading productivity by eliminating repetitive clicks, presenting the rubric selections in an easy-to-use format and presenting the final grades in a consistent, professional format. More time is created for the teacher to provide the needed constructive feedback their students need for success. Fortunately, there is a student version of this rubric called OrangeSlice Student Rubric. Students are able to review their peers' work, make rubric selections and provide written feedback.  The complete bundle of feedback is then presented to the student with a professional appearance.
Area to be Assessed: Writing
Duration: About 5 minutes
Assessment Procedure:
It is a very easy process to integrate this tool into your tech bag. First open a Google Doc and go to Add ons from the top toolbar. Get Add ons will appear on the bottom of the pull-down menu. Search for the Orange Slice Rubrics at the Chrome Store. If you want, you can download OrangeSlice Student Rubric, as well. Once you have completed the download, you should see the Orange Slice option under Add-ons. To start the grading process, you should select Score Rubric. You will see a menu on the right side where you can choose the performance levels, grading options, and categories. You are able to choose from pre-existing categories or add blank rows to customize on your own. Once you complete setting up your rubric, click on Create Rubric and the rubric will appear in the document. You will see a box on the right side that allows you to edit for Rubric type and point values.
