Dear < supervisor’s name >,
During the TESOL 2020 International Convention & English Language Expo, the world’s largest convention for English language teaching professionals, more than 6,000 professionals will gather to learn about innovative tools, techniques and strategies, public policy issues, new research, and best practices in the field. With over 1,000 sessions to learn from and thousands of fellow English language professionals to meet and exchange ideas with, this is an unparalleled professional development opportunity. I would like to attend TESOL 2020, 31 March – 3 April 2020, in Denver, Colorado, USA.
<If you would like to attend any of ticketed events, such as the Preconvention Institutes (30-31 March) or PreK-12 Day (4 April), include information here.>
To support my professional development goals, I am requesting funding for expenses to attend the TESOL 2020 <and any ticketed events if applicable>. I believe this is a sensible investment in my professional development, as it will help me learn more about <list what you plan to learn>. I have listed a detailed cost breakdown below.
Roundtrip Airfare: <$xxx>
Preconvention Institutes: <$xxx>
Conference Fee: <$xxx>
PreK-12 Day Fee: <$xxx>
Total Costs: <$xxxx>
The full convention fee is US$650 if I register by 3 February, but if I also join TESOL when I register, I can save US$285 on registration.
<If you have found other ways to save money, you should enter them here>
<If your school receives Title III funding, include this sentence: This professional development event may qualify for Title III funding under ESSA.>
After reviewing the convention website (https://www.tesolconvention.orgI have identified several different strands that apply to my work and would attend the sessions that best fit my learning needs and our school’s objectives. The presentations are facilitated by top English language educators and researchers in the field who understand the challenges we all face. Additionally, most sessions qualify for Continuing Education Units.
If I am able to attend, I will return with resources and information to share with my colleagues and tools to help our English learners succeed.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. I look forward to discussing the TESOL 2020 convention with you in more detail at your convenience.
