TESOL on a Budget
Although your supervisor might see attending the convention as an expense, you can show them how you can help minimize the costs:
- Consider sharing your hotel room with another attendee. Check with your colleagues to see who else is attending. You can also send an email message to the groups you belong to in MyTESOL inviting others looking for a roommate to contact you.
- If you join TESOL as a professional member and register early (by 3 February 2020), you can get the member registration rate of US$365. The nonmember early registration rate is US$650—so you’ll save US$285 on registration and get TESOL member benefits throughout the year, including free webinars, TESOL Journal, and discounts on books and other professional development opportunities.
- TESOL offers a discounted rate for a group of three or more attendees from the same institution. Each registration will be $330 if everybody is a member. That’s a $35 savings for each registration.
- Apply for a TESOL travel grant or scholarship! TESOL International Association annually awards more than US$50,000 in travel grants and registration scholarships to help TESOL members attend the TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo. Applications are due 1 October 2019.
If you do the math, you'll see that can attend TESOL 2020 and save in the process. If you have any questions about TESOL membership or the convention, please contact TESOL Member Services.
