ACCUPLACER English as a Second Language (ESL) Tests

This session is for everyone, from those who haven’t heard of ACCUPLACER ESL Tests to those who have—but would like to learn more—and everyone who supports English learners in their journey toward their academic goals. The presenter will provide an overview of the ESL Tests and talk about how they are used to make accurate course placement decisions. This is followed by a discussion of some key features of ACCUPLACER’ adaptive platform and ease of administration. There will be time for questions and answers.

Dr Constance Tsai is Senior Director of Assessment at College Board, where she leads all development efforts in support of ACCUPLACER and ACCUPLACER ESL Tests. She earned her Ed.M. in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Bristol University (UK), and her MA in Applied Linguistics and Ed.D. in TESOL from Columbia University. Prior to joining the College Board, she was Director of Instructional Testing at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, Assessment Specialist at the Educational Testing Service, and ESL instructor.
Kathie Montognese, Senior Director of Outreach for The College Board ACCUPLACER program has over twenty-five years of educational assessment experience, with emphasis on research and direct service to students. Prior to joining the College Board, Ms Montognese managed a college wide Placement for Success Testing Program for Hennepin Technical College, the largest standalone technical two-year college in Minnesota. Ms Montognese worked directly with students as they completed the process of transitioning to a post-secondary institution, including career advising, admission processes, and all aspects of student assessment.
