Alexandria, VA (18 March 2013) – TESOL International Association, a professional membership association for English language teaching professionals worldwide, is pleased to announce that Ahmar Mahboob and Brian Paltridge will begin their five-year term as co-editors of TESOL Quarterly, the association’s flagship academic journal, with the March 2014 issue. To ensure a smooth transition, they will serve during 2013 as associate editors with the current co-editors, Diane Belcher and Alan Hirvela.

Both Dr. Mahboob and Dr. Paltridge teach at the University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Mahboob is applied linguistics program advisor in the Department of Linguistics, and Dr. Paltridge is professor of TESOL and research development coordinator in the Faculty of Education and Social Work.

They both also maintain ambitious research programs. Dr. Mahboob’s research interests include language policy development, pidgin and creole languages, NNEST studies, English language teaching and teacher education, World Englishes, and pragmatics. Dr. Paltridge’s research interests include discourse analysis, academic writing, and English for specific purposes. Both have published extensively as well in books and prominent academic journals.

“TESOL is delighted to have two such distinguished scholars taking the helm at the Quarterly,” said TESOL President Suzanne Panferov. “They will no doubt continue the excellent work Dr. Belcher and Dr. Hirvela have done to ensure that TQ publishes the best and most innovative research in the field.”

Diane Belcher, professor of linguistics at Georgia State University in Atlanta, and Alan Hirvela, associate professor in the Foreign and Second Language Education Program at the Ohio State University in Columbus, began their term as co-editors for TESOL Quarterly with the March 2010 issue. The December 2013 issue will be their last. TESOL thanks them for their outstanding service to the association and the field, and wishes them well in their future endeavors.

TESOL Quarterly, published by TESOL Press and distributed by Wiley-Blackwell, appears in March, June, September, and December. It has been in publication since 1967.
