TESOL Installs New Officers

TESOL International Association, the professional association for English language educators worldwide, recently installed four new Board members at its Annual Business Meeting held in Dallas, Texas USA. New Board members serve 3-year terms beginning at the 2013 TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo held in Dallas, Texas. TESOL also installed Dr. Deena Boraie as the new President of TESOL International Association for the year 2013–2014. The Egyptian-born Dr. Boraie serves as Associate Dean for Instructional Affairs at the School of Continuing Education for The American University in Cairo

Before installing the new members, now Past President Suzanne Panferov recognized and thanked the outgoing members of the Board: TESOL Past President Christine Coombe, Dubai Men's College HCT; Valerie Jakar, David Yellin Academic College of Education; Janet Orr, TEAL Services; Kay Westerfield, University of Oregon; and outgoing Convention Chair Kate Reynolds, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Installed as President-Elect for 2013–2014 was Yilin Sun. Dr. Sun is a tenured faculty member at Seattle Community Colleges. She recently spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar at National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan. She has been involved with TESOL International Association for more than 15 years and has also been an active member and leader with the Washington Association for the Education of Speakers of Other Languages (WAESOL), a TESOL affiliate. 

Other newly installed board members are
• Debra Short, Academic Language Research & Training, LLC
• Luciana de Oliveira, Purdue University 
• Tony Silva, Purdue University

John Schmidt, Texas Intensive English Program, was also confirmed by the Board as 2014 Portland Convention Program Chair.
