by David Cutler | 11/20/2017
TESOL International Association is greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Anna Uhl Chamot in early November. A longtime contributor to the association, Chamot was a leading researcher, author and educator in the field, holding the prestigious position of Professor Emerita at The George Washington University. She created the popular Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach (CALLA) which is still in use by many teacher preparation programs today. In her many years of active service to TESOL, Chamot served in numerous capacities, including on the TESOL Quarterly Advisory Board and as Chair of the Elementary Education Interest Section. Chamot also regularly presented at TESOL's International Convention.
