TESOL International Association strongly supports the newly introduced
American Dream and Promise Act (H.R. 6) in the U.S. Congress, and is hopeful that the legislation will provide a long-awaited pathway to permanent citizenship for the more than 800,000 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients. For many years, TESOL has strongly advocated for the passage of fair and reasonable citizenship opportunities and protections for undocumented DREAMers, many of whom were English learners and have been highly successful students and contributing members of the local communities.
TESOL now calls on the U.S. Congress to pass this crucial piece of legislation and for the president to sign it into law. DREAMers make significant contributions to the economy, military, and academia. Passage of the American Dream and Promise Act would ensure that DREAMers across the United States can continue to live, work, and study in the communities that they have called home for most of their lives.
