Call for Expert Instructors and English Language Coaches

TESOL International Association is currently accepting applications for experts in English language teacher education to participate in the English Speaking Nation: Secondary Teacher Training grant program in Uzbekistan, an initiative funded by the U.S. Department of State for English language teachers in Uzbekistan. TESOL expects to hire 4-5 qualified candidates for the following two positions:

Position 1: TESOL Core Certificate Instructors (1-2 openings) 

The incumbent(s) will travel onsite to join a team of expert TESOL instructors to deliver the TESOL Core Certificate Program™ in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 9 April – 9 May 2020. Successful applicants will have experience delivering short-term TESOL TESL/TEFL certificate programs in EFL contexts, and in delivering professional development to non-native English speaking teachers in the region and in low-resource settings. Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to dynamic and unpredictable work environments is essential to this position. Instructors should be proficient in delivering content-based academic English instruction and adapting content for beginning and intermediate levels of English proficiency, while also possessing a strong understanding of experiential education and communicative language teaching.

Minimum qualifications

• MA in TESOL or related field
• Experience teaching short term TESOL TESL/TEFL certificate programs
• 5 years of English teaching experience in a classroom setting
• EFL teaching experience in developing regions
• Teacher development experience for an audience at the A2-B1 CEFR level
• Experience in low bandwidth, low resource contexts
• Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to dynamic and unpredictable work environments
• Strong intercultural communication skills
• Must be a U.S. citizen with a valid passport

Desired qualifications

• Experience traveling and working in Central Asia
• Experience as an English Language Fellow, Peace Corps Volunteer, or similar position
• Intermediate Russian language skills and/or Uzbek language skills not necessary, but helpful

Position 2: English Language Coaches (3 openings)

The incumbents will collaborate with local teacher educators to deliver the TESOL Core Certificate Program and in-person workshops on The 6 Principles for Exemplary Teaching of English Learners®, as well as demonstrate and teach English teaching lessons, support teacher training action plans, and supervise the participants' classroom practicum assignments.

Successful applicants will have a background in training non-native English speaking teachers in the region and in low-resource settings, as well as demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to dynamic and unpredictable work environments.

The incumbent is expected to travel to Uzbekistan in September or November 2020 and will spend approximately 3-8 months on location. The opportunity exists for the incumbent to be in Uzbekistan for up to 24 months. 

Minimum qualifications

• MA in TESOL or related field
• 3 years EFL classroom experience
• Teacher development experience for an audience at the A2-B1 CEFR level
• Intermediate Russian language skills
• Experience in low bandwidth, low resource contexts
• Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to dynamic and unpredictable work environments
• Strong intercultural communication skills
• Must be a U.S. citizen with a valid passport

Desired qualifications

• Conversational Uzbek language skills
• Experience traveling and working in Central Asia
• Experience teaching short term TESOL TESL/TEFL certificate programs

The incumbent will work closely with the TESOL Project Manager in order to ensure that the content is delivered in accordance with the project as outlined by the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent. Compensation for this assignment will include a monthly stipend, plus room/board, and round-trip airfare.

Estimated time frame: Staggered, beginning as early as September 2020.

Length of time: 3 – 24 months in one or more regions of Uzbekistan. 

Position #1: Estimated September 2020 – May 2021
Position #2: Estimated January 2021 – May 2021
Position #3: TBD flexible, minimum of 3 months between September 2020 and May 2021
