Seeking permanent protections for Dreamers in the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris Administration, TESOL International Association (TESOL) joined over 100 businesses and associations in a letter to U.S. President Joe Biden.
Dreamers currently have protected immigration status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which has been in place since 2015 and protects young, undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as children. President Biden recently
issued an Executive Order instructing federal agencies to strengthen the DACA program, but the program remains in place by executive action only, and has not yet been established by law.
As countless DACA recipients are also English learners and have gone on to become English language teachers, TESOL has been a
strong proponent of DACA and continues to advocate for a pathway to permanent citizenship for Dreamers and
fair immigration reform.
